We do hope you enjoy this website. Here you will find information regarding Mind in Croydon's newly acquired allotment 'Plot 26', situated in South Croydon Allotments (Sanderstead Road) near Orchard House, our new 'Social Inclusion and Employment Project'.
So what is 'Plot 26'? A brief history......
In October 2006 we acquired our plot. It was totally overgrown and had not been tended for many years. More than 40 old fruit trees were growing on it. Before we could begin we had to clear the site. Eventually, we removed more than five tonnes of trees and rubbish. As part of their work to bring businesses and voluntary organisations together, Three Hands put forward a number of projects to Direct Line, the insurance company, and they chose Mind in Croydon as the charity they wanted to work with. Twenty one people from Direct Line along with members of our staff and service users worked for two days on the plot. It has now been transformed with planting areas, paths, raised beds and has recently benefitted from a greenhouse and shed. All equipment has been provided by the staff at Direct Line who held fund-raising events to purchase spades, shovels, rakes etc. A forward planting plan has been devised which gives detailed guidance on how the project will develop. We would like to thank Direct Line and Three Hands for their support and help with this project.
We hope that all members of Mind in Croydon will benefit from this project for many years to come. This will enable people to produce, cook and eat for a healthier lifestyle.
